HARALD POMPL GERMANY
ANGELIKA SUMMA GERMANY
PETER PANYOCZKI NEW ZEALND / SWITZERLAND
SYDNEY EAST ART WALK: Saturday, 3 December, 12 - 4 PM
EXHIBITION DATES: 2 -17 December 2016
Harald Pompl lives and works in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. He was master pupil and assistant of Prof W. Uhlig, Germany and is an award winning artist. He was commissioned major site-specific public works. Pompl is well-known for his coloured resin sculptures. He invented a process where he adds pigments to liquid resin, pours it into pans, and cuts or tears or polishes it into form. Piled discs of coloured resin are the building blocks of sculptural objects where light plays a vital part. The translucent discs partly cover each other, mixing the colours to create new ones all over.
Peter Panyeczki born 1953 in Budapest, escaped 1957 after the revolution to Switzerland, studied literature and art history in Zurich; lives and works in Rona (CH) and Auckland (NZ). His work shows a phenomenon that is all too familiar. Through repetition, paradoxically, a word's function within a sentence, a language and a wider culture simply dissipates. Meaning is blurred as our perception of language evaporates and we move towards an unfocussed awareness of the word as an abstract object. A consciousness of place is denied - we are left with meaningless white noise in which sense can be redefined. Panyoczki takes this state of nothingness as a starting point for his practice. In the works 'Perception' for example, learned definitions are blurred and the cancelling out or denial of meaning is complete. Angelika Summa is a multi award winning German artist whose works have been selected for the Sculpture by the Sea at Bondi Beach in October 2016. At the Bondi to Tamarama cliff-walk her work ‘Alien’ - a massive ø 180 cm ball of steel was exhibited.
Angelika Summa's material is steel wire that she shapes seemingly playful into all kinds of solid and mostly geometrical welded curves, without losing its incredibly light and physical character. The interaction between statics and dynamics, a form-giving and form-dissolving effect is characteristic for almost all her works.
