Braddon Snape, will introduce the concept of his work and perform inflating a sculpture.
Snape produces sculptures that are made by inflating steel. He cuts shapes from thin sheets of cold rolled steel, then cuts ... two identical steel profiles which are then fully TIG welded together, fusing the two edges. An air hose is then connected to the inlet valve, air is carefully pushed into the steel, which expands or inflates the flat form into three-dimensions. The form is inflated slowly at incremental steps. Sometimes Snape stops during the inflation and manipulates the steel to initiate creasing in certain places.
This is an utterly extraordinary process to watch, so please join us on this special occasion, where the artist brings 'the studio' to the gallery.
